Thomas University (0-3) dropped the final game of the season opening series at Middle Georgia State (3-0) on Monday afternoon by a score 7-4. The final game had been moved to Monday due to rain on Sunday throughout the state.
The Night Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 2nd inning when
Levi Hollingsworth reached on a walk and
Landon Boyette singled. With two outs,
Luis Martinez drove them both across with a double, and
Jalbert Melo follwed with an RBI single to make it 3-0. Following a pitching change by the Knights, Melo would later score on a throwing error by the pitcher to make it 4-0 after 1 1/2 innings.
The Knights answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd innings, before scoring 4 in the 4th to take a 6-4 lead. MGSU would add another run in the 6th for the final of 7-4.
Patrick Haley (0-1) took the loss in relief of starter
Justin Young.
Taylor Westbrook led the offense for TU with two hits, and Martinez added 2 RBI.
The Night Hawks are back in action on Friday, February 2, when they take on Montreat College at 6pm in the home opener at Varnedoe Stadium. The two teams finish the series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon.
