Bobcats scratch Night Hawks 4-1 in TSC tourney

St. Thomas played consistently and scored single runs in the 1st and 3rd innings, and 2 in the 5th to beat Thomas University on Day 2 of the Sunference Championship Tournament in Ft. Meyers, FL. The Night Hawks will play #3 seed Webber International at 11am on Sunday, while the Bobcats will play top seed Keiser at 3pm. Both games are elimination games, and Southeastern stands as the lone undefeated team left in the tournament.

St. Thomas used 2 hits and a stolen base to manufacture a run in the first inning to take the 1-0 lead. The Bobcats added another run on a double steal with 2 out in the 3rd inning to make it 2-0. In the bottom of the 5th, STU used 3 straight singles with 2 outs to score 2 more, stretching the lead to 4-0.

The Night Hawks couldn't muster much offense on the day, but in the top of the 6th Jalbert Melo walked to lead off the inning, and moved to third on a Taylor Westbrook single. Melo would score on a fielders choice by Tanner Elsbernd, drawing TU closer at 4-1. That would be all the Night Hawks could muster on the day, going down in order in the last 3 innings.

Senior David Wood would take the loss on the hill, going 7 innings and surrendering 3 earned runs on 10 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 6. Reed Melcolm led the Night Hawks at the plate with 2 hits, and Elsbernd added an RBI.
