The Thomas University Softball Team (34-12, 14-7) will be traveling to Clermont, Florida, to play in The Sun Conference tournament May 4
th-6
th. TU will be coming in as the #3 seed in a 5-team bracket. Number 1 seed Warner University (22-13, 16-5) will receive a bye, while #2 seed Southeastern (38-13, 16-5) will be playing Thomas and #4 seed Ave Maria (29-14, 14-7) will play the #5 seed USCB (26-22, 8-13). Games start Thursday, May 4
th at 10:00 am.
The Night Hawks are looking for big things off the mound from junior pitchers,
Lauren West (19-5) and Jessica Reed (8-7). The conference leader in RBI's,
Kelsey Connolly, will need to have a solid weekend at the plate. She is batting 421 with 10 homeruns and an impressive slugging percentage of 746. Other hitters to watch are senior,
Brittany Daniels (401), juniors
Kaitlyn Stoltz (385) and
Kaylee Smith (358), and sophomore
Gaby Mora (368). TU's freshman leadoff hitter,
Victoria Camina, has an on base percentage of 415, which she will need to maintain in order for Thomas to be successful. Â
TU's defense leads the conference in fielding percentage with a 964. The offense has a team batting average of 340, which also is number one in the conference.
The Night Hawks will play Thursday, May 4
th against Southeastern at 12:30 PM. The tournament will be held at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida. Â
