TU Upsets No. 23 Florida Memorial

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University men's basketball team pulled off a 65-56 upset of No. 23 Florida Memorial Saturday at the TU Gymnasium. TU never trailed in the game and won eight of its last 10 games.

The Night Hawks improved to 13-6, 8-5 in The Sun Conference, while the Lions went to 14-6, 10-2 in TSC. TU hosts St. Thomas 4 p.m. Saturday in the TU Gymnasium for senior day.

Katrell Myers led all scorers with 18 points, while Javoris Cooks added 15 points. Willie Holloway provided his fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds and added three blocks.

The Night Hawks held the Lions scoreless for nearly the first eight minutes of the game and led 4-0. Cooks gave the Night Hawks a 16-9 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half. TU went on a 5-0 run and took a 24-16 lead. The Night Hawks ended the half on a 7-2 run and led 31-20 at the break, their largest lead of the game.

The Lions opened the second half on a 13-3 run and cut the TU lead to 34-33. The Night Hawks responded with a 9-1 run and extended the lead to 43-34. Aaron Bryant converted two free throws for FMU and brought the game within a possession at 48-45.

The Night Hawks went on an 8-1 run and took a double-digit lead at 56-46. The Lions went on a 7-0 run and cut the lead to 56-53 with two minutes to play. TU closed the game on a 9-3 run.
