St. Thomas Holds Off Night Hawks

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University men's basketball team fell short to St. Thomas University (Fla.), 85-77, on Saturday at the TU Gymnasium on senior day. TU had five players score in double figures.

The Night Hawks went to 13-7, 8-6 in The Sun Conference, while the Bobcats improved to 19-7, 10-4 in TSC.

Katrell Myers led the Night Hawks with 16 points, while Javoris Cooks added 14 points and three assists. Jalen Bonds led the team with nine rebounds and added 10 points.

Bonds tied the game at 13-13 with nine minutes to play in the first half. St. Thomas went on a 5-3 run before TJ Rines knocked down a three-pointer and cut the lead to 18-16. Cooks sank two free throws and brought the game within a possession at 23-20. The Night Hawks ended the first half on a 6-0 run and knotted the score at 31-31 at the break.

TU started the second half on an 8-2 run and jumped out to a 39-33 lead, its largest of the game. The Night Hawks held the lead until Mikon Hewitt converted a fast break layup with seven and a half minutes left in the game. St. Thomas used a 17-1 run to extend the lead to 67-56.

The Night Hawks went on a 6-0 run and slimmed the lead to 73-67 with a minute to play. The Bobcats went 12-for-12 at the free throw line in the last 40 seconds of the game.
