Night Hawks Fall Short Against No. 5 Warner in Double Overtime

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Thomas University men's basketball team suffered a 96-88 setback in double overtime to No. 5 Warner University (Fla.) on Thursday at the Turner Athletic Center. TU had four players score in double figures.

The Night Hawks went to 13-8, 8-7 in The Sun Conference, while the Royals improved to 24-4, 12-4 in TSC. TU wraps up the regular season at Johnson & Wales (Fla.), 4 p.m. Saturday in North Miami, Fla.

Katrell Myers led the Night Hawks with a career high 26 points and added five rebounds. Willie Holloway produced his fifth double-double of the season with a career high 21 points and a career high 15 rebounds. Tre' Ford had a career high 13 points, while TJ Rines added 12.

Holloway went on a 7-0 run by himself and gave TU a 10-4 advantage early in the game. Myers tied the game at 14-14 with less than 14 minutes left in the first half. The Night Hawks then went on an 8-1 run and took a 22-15 lead.

Warren Hall converted a jumper that gave the Royals a 25-24 advantage with six minutes remaining in the first half. Holloway knocked down a jumper and tied the game at 32-32. Holloway made another jumper and gave TU a 40-39 advantage at the halftime break.

The Night Hawks opened the second half on a 5-0 run and gained a 45-39 lead. Issac Sutton tied the game at 47-47 for Warner at the 14 minute mark. Traevon Gresham gave TU a 55-49 lead as part of a 6-0 run by the Night Hawks.

Hall brought Warner within a point before Myers knocked down a pair of free throws that pushed the lead back to 64-61. Warner went on a 7-2 run and tied the game at 74-74 with 29 seconds remaining in the game.

In the first overtime, Rines knocked down a three-pointer that gave the Night Hawks a 78-77 lead. He then converted a jumper and tied the game at 80-80. Hall made two free throws before Myers converted a jumper and sent the game into double overtime at 82-82.

Holloway sank two free throws and gave TU an 84-82 lead in the second overtime. The Royals responded with a 6-0 run and took an 88-84 lead. Warner ended the game on an 8-3 run.
