TU Slips to Johnson & Wales in Regular Season Finale

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – The Thomas University men's basketball team fell to Johnson & Wales University (Fla.), 58-56, on Saturday in the regular season finale.

The Night Hawks ended the regular season with a 13-9, 8-8 Sun Conference record, while the Wildcats ended the regular season with a 12-13, 8-8 Sun Conference record.

Javoris Cooks lead the Night Hawks with 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while Willie Holloway was a rebound shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Katrell Myers added 10 points with seven rebounds.

Holloway knocked down two free throws that gave TU a 14-5 lead early in the game. JWU responded with a 6-0 run and closed the gap to 14-11. Gino Fils-Alme sank a three-pointer that pulled the Wildcats within a point at 17-16 before Myers converted a layup.

The Night Hawks went on an 8-0 run and pulled ahead at 27-18. TU ended the first half on an 8-2 run and led 39-27 at the break.

Cooks knocked down a three that pushed TU ahead 42-29 early in the second half. He then went on a 5-0 run by himself and gave the Night Hawks a 51-42 lead with six minutes to play. JWU pulled within a possession at 51-48 on a made three by TJ Johnson.

Fils-Alme gave the Wildcats a 55-54 lead with less than two minutes to play. Holloway gave TU a 56-55 lead on two made free throws with 40 seconds to play. JWU ended the game on a 3-0 run.
