Allen scores 17 in loss at Keiser

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Kriza Allen scored a game-high 17 points for Thomas, but Keiser (Fla.), which is receiving votes in the latest top 25 poll, outscored the Night Hawks a combined 41-25 in the second and third quarters to come away with a 68-55 win in Thursday's Sun Conference (TSC) opener inside the Countess de Hoernle Student Life Center.

"We are a ways away from where we want to be, but we've shown the ability in spurts to play well, " Green and White coach Myron Brown said. "Give Keiser credit. They made the plays they needed to in order to get the victory tonight."

Allen scored her team's first four points, and an 8-0 run by Thomas (1-1, 0-1 TSC) in just under four minutes gave Brown's squad a 14-9 edge with 56 seconds left in the first quarter. The Night Hawks led 15-13 at the end of the period.

A De'Audra Copeland layup 35 seconds into the second quarter pushed Thomas' upper hand to four, but Keiser (4-2, 1-0 TSC) answered with an 11-0 spurt, as a Nikki Saunders jumper in the paint gave the Seahawks a 24-17 edge at the 6:59 mark. Jewel Montisano canned a trey at the 4:20 mark to trim the Night Hawks' deficit to 29-26, but Keiser scored the final five points of the quarter to lead 36-28 at the break.

The Green and White limited the Seahawks to just 1-of-11 from 3-point range in the first half.

An Allen five-foot jumper in the paint brought Brown's team within four with 6:59 to play in the third quarter, but another 11-0 spurt by the home team stretched the margin to 49-34 at the 3:19 mark. Caity Riley made two free throws in the final second of the frame to give Keiser a 54-40 advantage at the end of the third.

The Seahawks scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to stretch its lead to 20 at the 7:26 mark. Thomas countered with a 9-0 run to climb within 11 points at 60-49 after an Allen jumper with 5:17 to play, but the Night Hawks would get no closer.

Saunders ended with a game-high 16 points and was perfect from the field (7-of-7) and the free throw line (2-of-2). Donivan Dyson and Kelsi Ash each added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Allen finished 7-of-12 shooting to go along with seven rebounds and four steals. She has scored in double figures in four of the last five games. Copeland contributed 12 points on a 6-of-12 effort from the floor. Dymon Brown scored eight points and totaled a game-high give steals. Copeland and Alexis Moody each recorded three steals, as the visitors generated 18, leading to 25 points.

Keiser shot 50.9 percent (28-of-55) overall.

Both teams made four treys apiece but struggled from beyond the arc, going a combined 8-of-34.

Thomas won the battle of the boards 37-35, including 17-9 on the offensive glass.

The Night Hawks continue league play Saturday at Johnson & Wales (Fla.). Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. ET.
