Thomas holds off Selma, 65-61

Box Score

THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Thomas picked up its third-straight non-conference win in the month of October following a 65-61 season-opening win Monday evening over USCAA member Selma (Ala.) inside TU Gymnasium. Myron Brown earns his first win with the Night Hawks in his first game as head coach of the program.

De'Audra Copeland led four Thomas (1-0) players in double-figures with 17 points on a 7-of-12 clip from the field. Daycia Bandy added 13 points, while Kriza Allen and Jewel Montisano had 12 apiece.

Copeland and Allen each had eight rebounds, including seven for Copeland on the offensive glass. Arianna Anderson added seven rebounds in the victory. Bandy had four of the team's 16 steals.

Tatyanna Griffin and Rebecca Payne each had a double-double for Selma (0-1). Griffin recorded 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Payne poured in 20 points and 18 boards.

Down 51-41 with 7:57 to play, an Anderson layup triggered a 14-3 Green and White spurt in a span of 3:59, as an Allen fastbreak layup gave her team a 55-54 edge. The Bulldogs responded with five-straight points, but two Bandy free throws at the 2:05 mark gave Brown's team the upper hand for good.

The Night Hawks forced 30 turnovers and turned them into 22 points.

Thomas continues its non-conference slate on Sunday, Nov. 5, at NCAA Division I member Kennesaw State. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. ET.
