Night Hawks Upset No. 23 Keiser

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Thomas University men's basketball team upended No. 23 Keiser University (Fla.), 66-61, on Saturday. It is the second-straight win for TU against top 25 opponents.

The Night Hawks improved to 8-4, 3-2 in The Sun Conference, while the Seahawks went to 15-3, 2-2 in TSC. TU returns home to face Webber International (Fla.), 6 p.m. Thursday at TU Gymnasium.

Traevon Gresham and Javoris Cooks led the Night Hawks with 10 points each, while Willie Holloway pulled in a team-best seven rebounds. TU had 10 players score in the game.

Cooks gave the Night Hawks their first lead of the game at 9-8 with a made jumper at the 15:40 mark of the first half. The basket started a 10-4 run for TU and held a 17-12 lead. The Seahawks tied the game at 19-19 with 9:42 left in the first half.

Keiser went on an 8-0 run and took a 30-24 led with two and a half minutes left in the first half. Gresham gave the Night Hawks a 31-30 lead on a three-pointer with a minute to play in the first half. TU held a 35-33 lead at the halftime break.

The Night Hawks led the entire second half. Deion McClenton converted a layup that brought Keiser within two at 39-37. McClenton then made another layup that slimmed the TU lead to 42-41. The Night Hawks went on a 5-0 run and extended the lead to 56-49.

Ivan Tomic converted a jumper and gave the TU a 62-54 lead, it's largest of the game, with two and a half minutes remaining in the game. McClenton made a layup with seven seconds remaining that brought Keiser within three at 64-61. Cooks converted two free throws to close the game.

The Night Hawks held the Seahawks to 33.8 percent (22-of-65) shooting from the field and 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from behind the three-point line.
