Night Hawks Extinguish Fire on Thursday

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University men's basketball team knocked off Southeastern University (Fla.), 85-69, Thursday night at the TU Gymnasium. TU did not trail at all in the second half.

The Night Hawks improved to 11-5, 6-4 in The Sun Conference, while the Fire fell to 11-12, 2-8 in TSC. TU remains at home to play Keiser 4 p.m. Saturday at the TU Gymnasium.

Javoris Cooks led TU with 24 points and added five rebounds, while Willie Holloway produced his second-straight double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Katrell Myers provided 18 points and seven rebounds, while Jalen Bonds added 17 points and six rebounds.

SEU tied the game at 12-12 on a made three-pointer early in the game. The Night Hawks responded with a 6-0 run and took an 18-12 lead. Jalen McCallum gave the Fire a 25-24 lead on a three-pointer with six minutes to play in the first half. The basket was part of a 14-2 run that gave SEU a 32-26 lead.

The Night Hawks went on a 5-0 run before Deshaun Cox converted a free throw for the Fire. Southeastern held a 37-35 lead into the halftime break.

TU started the second half on an 11-2 run and broke out to a 46-39 lead. Cooks gave the Night Hawks their first double-digit lead at 55-45 with two made free throws. The Fire went on a 7-0 run before Cooks knocked down a three with less than eight minutes to play.

Southeastern pulled within a possession at 64-62 on a fast break layup by McCallum. C.J. Reese converted two free throws a minute later and made it a one point game at 65-64. The Night Hawks closed the game on a 20-5 run.
