Night Hawks End Their Season Against Ave Maria

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Thomas University softball team fell to Ave Maria, 8-5, on Friday morning in The Sun Conference Tournament at the National Training Center.

The Night Hawks end the 2016 season with a 20-22 record, while the Gyrenes improved to 22-20 on the year.

Michael Cooper went 3-for-4 with three RBI's for TU, while Alex VanWagner and Ashley Sikes both went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Kingsley Avery went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI's for AMU, while Marissa Conde produced a 2-for-3 day with a run scored.

Ave Maria scored two runs in each of the first, second and third innings. In the third, Miranda Dessecker hit a sacrifice squeeze bunt that scored Deanna Stirtzinger for the game-winning run.

Cooper doubled to deep left center field that drove in three runs for the Night Hawks in the third. In the next inning, Torri Bethel scored on a wild throw by Ave Maria.

In the sixth, Gaby Mora doubled down the left field line that drove in Sikes and ended the Thomas scoring.

Sikes threw 1.2 innings with four runs on five hits, while Ashley Chapman pitched 5.1 innings with four runs on seven hits and struck out one.

Chelsea Carter, Chapman, Rachel Hoeft, Danielle Lower and VanWagner all ended their Thomas University softball careers.
