Long Ball Serves Key as TU Tops St. Thomas in Doubleheader

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University softball team scored eight runs on homeruns and escaped with two victories, 5-4 and 6-4, Saturday on senior day at Armory Field.

The Night Hawks improved to 18-19, 6-6 in The Sun Conference, while the Bobcats fell to 16-21, 5-7 on the season.

TU finishes the regular season with a doubleheader against Keiser starting at 11 a.m. Sunday at Armory Field.

GAME ONE
TU trailed 4-0 before the Night Hawks produced two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kelsey Connolly put TU on the scoreboard when she scored on a passed ball and Jamie Gonzalez crossed the plate on a wild throw from the catcher in the same play.

Chelsea Carter put the Night Hawks on top for good with a three-run homerun to left field.

Ashley Chapman threw the complete game allowing four runs on seven hits and struck out two.

GAME TWO
Danielle Lower drove a homerun over the left field fence in the third and cut the St. Thomas lead to 2-1.

Lower struck again an inning later with a grand slam over the right field fence and put the Night Hawks on top 5-2.

Christina Sacramento responded with a three-run homerun to left field that tied the game a 5-5 in the seventh.

Gaby Mora singled to right center that drove in Michael Cooper for the game-winning run.

Katie Lopes pitched 6.1 innings with four runs on six hits and struck out one, while Ashley Chapman collected the win on 0.2 innings of work and allowed no runs on no hits.
