THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University softball team concludes its regular season with home games this weekend against Keiser University, Friday, and St. Thomas University, Saturday.
The Lady Night Hawks (16-19, 4-6 TSC) look to finish their 2016 regular season with a strong showing after sweeping Ave Maria on Sunday. With four spots left in the Sun Conference Tournament, Thomas must finish this weekend with a bang. Junior
Brittany Daniels now leads TU starters with a .358 batting average in addition to 18 stolen bases, while sophomore
Michael Cooper leads the team with 36 runs batted in. Sophomore pitcher
Katie Lopes (6-6) leads Thomas with a 2.49 earned run average, while senior pitcher
Ashley Chapman (5-9) leads the Lady Night Hawks with 65 strikeouts.
Keiser (14-22, 2-8 TSC) was swept by Warner University, 5-4 and 7-3 Sunday. They must now win all four remaining games of the season to keep its 2016 campaign alive. The Lady Seahawks looks to senior catcher Shanah Thomas to guide the team's hitting game. The Ormond Beach, Fla. native leads the team with a .424 batting average, while junior outfielder Heather Shapiro leads KU with 30 runs batted in despite not recording one since Sun Conference play began. Junior pitcher Allison Williams (6-8) leads the pitching staff with a 2.99 earned run average, while junior Riley Caylor leads the Lady Seahawks with 56 strikeouts this season. Newcomer Tyler Thomas (3-2) has allowed 1.04 hits per inning pitched.
St. Thomas (16-19, 5-5 TSC) heads into this weekend after being swept by and held scoreless against Southeastern University 5-0 and 4-0. The Lady Bobcats continue to rely on the bat of freshman Meghan Riddle. The Jupiter, Fla., native leads the team and the Sun Conference with a strong .434 batting average, while senior Jessica Matias is 36th in the NAIA with 20 total stolen bases. Junior pitcher Jessica Castiglione (5-4) leads the team with a 1.03 earned run average and 35 strikeouts. The team ranks 22nd in the NAIA with 13 triples and 18th with 2.00 stolen bases per game.
First pitch at Armory Field for both Friday and Saturday is slated for 1 p.m.
