Box Score 2 THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Concordia University Cardinals (9-5) swept the Thomas University softball team (10-11), 5-4 & 6-4, on Saturday afternoon at Armory Field.
In game one, Concordia jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 4 ½ innings and added another run, in their half of the seventh, for a 5-0 advantage. TU rallied in the bottom of the seventh, taking advantage of an error and four walks by the Cardinals pitching staff. Sophomore
Michael Cooper (1-4, 2B, 2 RBI) drove in two runs on a two out double, to make it a one run game but Concordia was able to shut the door, leaving the game tying run on third. Senior starting pitcher
Ashley Chapman (2-5) went all the way in the losing effort, allowing five earned runs on ten hits.
Concordia, once again, jumped ahead in game two, taking a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the third. TU would use clutch two out hitting in their half of the inning to get back into the game. A base hit by sophomore
Kelsey Connolly (1-4, RBI) made it a 5-1 game and another run scoring single by sophomore
Trinity Strickland (2-4, R, RBI) would make it a three run game. The Night Hawks took advantage of a CU error in the bottom of the fifth to make it a two run game but the Cardinals responded by tacking on an insurance run in the next frame. In the bottom half of the inning, a base hit by Cooper (2-4, R, RBI) would, once again, make it a two run game. After TU held Concordia scoreless in the seventh, the Cardinals set down the Lady Night Hawks, in order to secure the sweep. Sophomore starting pitcher
Katie Lopes (5-3) took the loss.
TU will open Sun conference play on Friday March 18
th, when they welcome Keiser University to Armory Field for a double header beginning at 1 p.m.
