Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The #1 seeded Southeastern University (22-5) burned the #4 seeded TU Lady Night Hawks, 84-58, on Friday evening in the Sun Conference semi-finals, hosted by Southeastern.
SEU jumped out to an early advantage, leading 23-9 after the first period. An 11-2 TU run, to open the second period, would make it a five point game, 25-20, but Southeastern would snap it with a three pointer to make it an eight point game. After a Lady Night Hawks bucket, the margin would shrink to three, when junior
Taron Bright dropped a three to make it a 28-25 game with 4:25 left in the half. The teams would exchange baskets but SEU would eventually take a seven point margin, 38-31, into the locker room.
Thomas would open the third period on a 3-0 run and a bucket by freshman
De'Audra Copeland would make it a two point game, 38-36. SEU bent but did not break as their shooters, once again caught fire, going on an 18-4 run to blow the game wide open at 56-40. Senior
Bria Joyner-Williams would convert one of two from the charity stripe to temporarily slow the SEU momentum but twelve unanswered points by the Fire sealed the game.
Southeastern advances to the TSC Tournament Championship game, where they will meet #3 Webber International University on Saturday at 7 P.M.
Freshman
Dymon Brown led TU with 14 points. Junior
Rayven Thomas collected a game high 15 boards while dropping 8 points. Joyner-Williams, closes out her Lady Night Hawk career with a 7 point and 5 rebound effort.
The Lady Night Hawks end their season at 14-14. TU will lose three seniors from their roster but a solid nucleus of 10 returners brings an air of optimism to the 2016-17 season.
