Thomasville, Ga. – The Lady Night Hawks Softball team (5-3), split a Thursday afternoon double header, 1-2 & 6-1, with the visiting Indiana University – Southeast (1-1) at Armory Field.
IUS, broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth inning of game one, on a solo home run to left field, which proved to be the game winner. Sophomore starting pitcher
Katie Lopes (2-1) went all the way, in the losing effort, allowing two earned runs on nine hits while striking out seven.
In game two, senior starting pitcher
Ashley Chapman (1-1) scattered four hits, in the complete game win. Chapman struck six and allowed one unearned run. A four run fifth inning for TU, broke the game wide open and proved to be the difference in the game. The Lady Night Hawks took advantage of two errors by IUS throughout the game, which would turn into four unearned runs. Junior first baseman
Ashley Sikes (1-2, R, 2 RBI, 2B) drove in two runs on the day.
TU will be back in action on Saturday February 27
th, when they travel to Lawrenceville, Ga. to face University of Rio Grande at 1:30 p.m. and Georgia Gwinnett College at 4 p.m.
