THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Thomas University women's basketball team begins the fourth quarter of their Sun Conference schedule, looking to secure their berth in the TSC tourney, with visits from the first place Southeastern University Fire, on Wednesday, and the St. Thomas University Bobcats on Saturday.
The Lady Night Hawks (11-11, 6-6 TSC), in the midst of a two-game losing streak, are in need of two important wins in order to clinch a home game during the Sun Conference tournament quarterfinals. Although TU's conference record is tied with Keiser's, the Lady Night Hawks own the tiebreaker thanks to the their regular season sweep of the Seahawks. In order to get back on track, Thomas will continue to rely on senior
Bra'shey Ali (8.8), senior Bria Joyner-Willaims (11.8) and junior
Rayven Thomas (9.4) to dominate the boards. Ali leads TU in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game.
Southeastern (20-4, 11-2 TSC) has a first-round home game locked up, but still leads Webber International by a half game for the Sun Conference lead. Junior forward Christin Strawbridge and junior guard Alyssa Ramos are clearly the driving forces of SEU's success. Strawbridge leads the team in points per game (16.06) and has the best FG percentage (62.5) in NAIA Division II, while Ramos ranks sixth in NAIA Division II in three-pointers made per game (3.50).
St. Thomas (10-9, 9-3 TSC) is closing in on hosting a TSC quarterfinal game. Senior guard Jamesha Willis leads the team in points (15.58) and steals per game (2.90). Willis' steal average ranks eighth in NAIA Division II. Junior forward Supavadee Kunchuan leads the team in total boards (115) and blocks (12).
Tipoff against Southeastern at the TU Gymnasium is scheduled for 7 p.m. while tipoff against St. Thomas is slated for 2 p.m.
