Webber Holds off Late Push from TU

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Thomas University men's basketball team fell short against Webber International (Fla.), 75-74, Thursday night at the Sabbagh Athletic Center.

The Night Hawks went to 5-3, 1-2 in The Sun Conference, while the Warriors went to 3-7, 1-1 in TSC. TU continues conference action against Florida Memorial 4 p.m. Saturday in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Javoris Cooks led the Night Hawks with 18 points and four assists, while Katrell Myers added 16 points. Tre' Ford and Jalen Bonds both pulled down a team best four rebounds.

Bonds brought the Night Hawks within one at 5-4 early in the game. Myers gave TU its first lead of the game at 12-11 with a made jumper. Webber went on a 9-1 run and opened up a 24-17 lead with less than eight minutes left in the first half. Cooks beat the halftime buzzer with a three-pointer from half court and tied the game at 38-38 heading into the locker room.

TU jumped out to a 6-3 run to start the second half and took a 44-41 lead. Ivan Tomic knocked down a jumper that gave the Night Hawks a 54-48 lead, their largest of the game. Dante DiSipio connected on a layup that gave TU a 62-57 advantage, their last lead of the game.

Webber's Cody Carden made one of two free throws that gave the Warriors a 73-67 lead with less than two minutes to play in the game. Myers converted two free throws that brought TU within a possession at 74-71 with 11 seconds left on the clock. Carden then went one for two from the free throw line again, which proved to be the game winner. Cooks sank a three-pointer from the corner as the clock expired.
