TU’s Historic Run Falls Short Against UNOH

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – The 13th-ranked Thomas University men's soccer team got knocked out of the round of 16 in the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship by fourth ranked University of Northwestern Ohio, 1-0, Monday night at the Seacrest Soccer Complex. TU made it to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.

The Night Hawks ended the 2016 season with a record of 15-4-2, while the Racers improved to 19-1-3.

Donal Branagan took a free kick from 30 yards out that kicked off the crossbar in the 33rd minute. The two teams were knotted at 0-0 at the end of the first half.

UNOH netted the only goal of the game 14 minutes into the second half. Fernando Rizo played a ball behind the TU defenders into the 18-yard box before Carlos Monterrey collected the ball and finished with one touch.

The Night Hawks had opportunities to score an equalizer in the second half but the shots sailed over the goal.

Lee Howarth collected one save in goal for TU.
