Cooks’ 41 Points Not Enough against Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Thomas University men's basketball team fell just short to NCAA Division II Rollins College (Fla.), 104-99, Wednesday at the Alfond Sports Center.

The Night Hawks went to 5-2, while the Tars improved to 5-1. TU returns to conference play against Webber International University (Fla.) at 4 p.m. on December 1 in Babson Park, Fla.

Javoris Cooks led TU with a career-high 41 points including a career-high 10 three-pointers and added 10 rebounds, his first double-double of the season. Katrell Myers produced a career-high 25 points, while Jalen Bonds pulled down seven rebounds.

Bonds made a jumper before Cooks connected on at three that gave the Night Hawks a 5-2 lead early, their largest of the game. The Tars then went on a 23-6 run and held a 25-11 lead with 10 and a half minutes remaining in the first half.

The Night Hawks answered with a 10-4 run and cut the lead to 39-34 with a minute remaining in the first half. Rollins held 44-34 lead at the halftime break.

Cooks tied the game at 52-52 on a three-pointer with 16 minutes left in the game. TJ Rines tied the game a minute later at 55-55 on a made layup. Myers gave the Night Hawks a 62-61 lead with 13 and half minutes remaining on the scoreboard.

The Tars rolled off a 15-3 run and pulled out to a 76-65 lead. Rollins broke the century mark with a 10-4 run and extended the lead to 100-86. The Night Hawks ended the game on a 13-2 run.

TU shot 83 percent (19-of-23) from the free throw line and out rebounded the Tars 40-28 in the game.
