Night Hawks Fall Short Against Warner

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University men's basketball team had the last possession of the game, but were unable to score as Warner University (Fla.) took a 76-75 win Thursday night at the TU Gymnasium.

The Night Hawks went to 4-1, 0-1 in The Sun Conference, while the Royals improved to 5-0, 1-0 in TSC. TU continues conference play against Ave Maria University (Fla.) 6 p.m. Saturday at the TU Gymnasium.

The Night Hawks had five players score in double figures, while Katrell Myers led the team with 13 points. Javoris Cooks produced 12 points, while Traevon Gresham provided 12 points and eight rebounds.

Gresham sank a three-pointer and brought the Night Hawks within one at 14-13 before TJ Rines converted another three and tied the game at 16-16. Warner went on a 12-2 run and extended the lead to 31-20.

Myers converted an and one and cut the WU lead to 35-30 with five and a half minutes left before halftime. Jamison Williams made a fast break layup and cut the WU lead to 42-38, while the Royals led 44-38 at the break.

Warner opened the second half on an 8-0 run and led 52-38. The Night Hawks went on a 10-3 run and cut the lead to 64-59. Cooks connected on a three and brought TU within three at 72-69 with less than three minutes remaining.

Gresham made two free throws and cut the WU lead to 76-73 with a minute remaining. Gresham then collected a defensive rebound before Tre' Ford made a fast break layup while Warner led 76-75 with 32 seconds remaining. The Night Hawks held the last possession of the game, but were unable to come away with the win.
