Late Surge Pushes TU Past Ave Maria

Box Score THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University men's basketball pulled away late in the game and collected a 71-66 win over Ave Maria (Fla.) Saturday night at the TU Gymnasium.

The Night Hawks improved to 5-1, 1-1 in The Sun Conference, while the Gyrenes fell to 2-3, 1-1 in TSC. TU travels to NCAA Division II Rollins 2 p.m. Wednesday in Winter Park, Fla.

Javoris Cooks led all scorers with 25 points and added eight rebounds for TU, while Traevon Gresham added 13 points and four rebounds. Jalen Bonds led the Night Hawks with 10 rebounds with seven points.

Malik Mayeux led the Gyrenes with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Tejai Allen added 16 points. Deonte Dixon produced 10 points, while Exor Torres provided eight points and six points.

Cooks converted six of seven free throws in the last minute to seal the victory for the Night Hawks.
