TU Seeks Third TSC Victory Against SEU

Angelo Pontello | Sports Information Intern | @apontello44

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's basketball team will venture down to Lakeland, Fla., Thursday evening in their first Sun Conference road game of the season.  There, the Lady Night Hawks will square off against Southeastern University.

The Lady Night Hawks (7-6, 2-1 TSC) are looking to build on their double overtime 66-61 victory over Sun Conference foe Keiser University.  Sophomore Tess Wright, who led the Lady Night Hawks against the Lady Seahawks scoring 20 points, comes off her best game in just two seasons with Thomas.  The Calhoun, Ga., native now averages to 7.2 points a game after netting a perfect 6-for-6 from behind the arch this past weekend.  Wright, who was named TU's Student-Athlete of the Week this past Monday, also recorded three steals, bringing her season total to 13.  Also, junior Rayven Thomas recorded a double-double against Keiser with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior transfer Bra'shey Ali continues to be one of the most dominating players in NAIA Division II this season.  She leads the Lady Night Hawks in points, points per game, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.  The potential Sun Conference Player of the Week candidate leads in rebounds and blocks in the TSC and is fifth in steals, sixth in scoring, and seventh in assists.  As a unit, Thomas leads the NAIA DII in total rebounds per game (51.231) and total rebound margin (16.692).

The Fire (13-3, 4-1 TSC) are off to a hot start, winning their last eight games, coming fresh off of Sun Conference victories over St. Thomas (74-67) and Ave Maria (80-60).  Overall, the Fire has outscored their opponents (1160-965) as they average 77.33 points per game and are receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches Poll.

Southeastern has put together an impressive offensive showing where three of their five starters average double figures.  Junior Christin Strawbridge has been a scoring and rebounding machine for SEU averaging 17.19 points and 8.8 rebounds a contest.  Strawbridge ranks third in NAIA DII in field goal percentage (63.9%). She also leads the team in blocks with 15.  The Fire will also receive guidance from Alyssa Ramos as she will coordinate the point for SEU.  So far this season, Ramos leads the Fire with 66 assists.

If the Lady Night Hawks are looking to avoid trouble and pick up their third Sun Conference victory of the season, they will have to find a way to contain SEU's Carlie Newman. The Spring Arbor transfer leads SEU in steals (20) and averages 5.94 rebounds a game.

Tipoff from the Furnace is slated for 5:30 p.m.
