THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University's softball team picked up its fifteenth and sixteenth wins of the season this afternoon when they swept No. 3 Reinhardt University in a double-header series at Armory Field. Previously, the Lady Night Hawks defeated Reinhardt 8-4 and 10-1 this past weekend in the NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. These victories give Thomas the season sweep over the Lady Eagles.
Â
Game one's 4-1 victory was a fast-paced, pitcher dominant contest. TU's starter
Ashley Chapman (4-1, 2 saves) pitched a complete game surrendering just one run on four hits. Chapman struck out four of the 24 batters she faced while only walking three.
Â
Thomas' offense racked up nine hits en route to victory. In the bottom of the third, the Hunter Green and White scored all four of its runs of the game.Â
Brittany Daniels led the inning off with a double to center and advanced to third on a single by right-fielder
Alex VanWagner. With no outs in the inning, left-fielder
Chandler Seay plated the first run of the game lining a single to shallow left field. Third baseman
Rachel Hoeft celebrated her birthday by hitting a one-hop single to left that RU's Andrea Eison misplayed allowing VanWagner to score for the second run of the game. With just one out in the inning, first baseman
Carmen Nadal hit a fastball for a double down the first baseline to score Seay and Hoeft to give the Lady Night Hawks the 4-0 advantage.
Â
The Lady Eagles were able to score one run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly to center by right-fielder Katie Blair to score RU's catcher Randi Wimpy from third. Previously, Wimpy reached on a double before advancing to third on a ground ball to second. Thomas' Chapman came on in the seventh to pitch her sixth scoreless inning of the day to pick up the win. Reinhardt's Madison Luck was credited with the loss.
Â
The nightcap contest featured six shutout innings by TU's starter
Ashley Sikes. The left-hander struck out two of the 23 batters she faced. Sikes finished the game without issuing a walk while only surrendering five hits.
Â
The Lady Night Hawks scored a run in each of the first four innings of action to go up 7-0. Notable highlights in the victory included a leadoff solo homerun by shortstop
Lindsey Young in the second inning and two-run blast by Sun Conference Player of the Week
Kelsey Connolly. Connolly's shot was her fifth of the season.
Â
Reinhardt was able to post two runs in their final inning to cut the final score to 7-2. Third baseman Balli Willis hit a two-run blast out of the park with one out in the inning.Â
Alexa Fair picked up the save in Thomas's 7-2 victory while Maci Mills suffered the loss.
Â
Thomas improves to 16-4 on the season while No. 3 Reinhardt drops to 7-9 on the year.
Â
The Lady Night Hawks return to action on Friday, March 6 when they travel to Gulf Shores, Ala., to participate in the Gulf Shores Invitational. Thomas will face Georgia Gwinnett in their first game of the tournament.  First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
