THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's basketball team dropped their second straight home game losing to Sun Conference rival Southeastern University 68-56 this evening during their annual White Out Night.
Â
In the first half, Thomas struggled to make baskets shooting 6-of-23 from the field and missing all of their three point attempts.
Â
Heading into the half, Southeastern had a 15 point, 34-19, lead. After the intermission, the Fire continued their shooting accuracy slowly increasing their lead over Lady Night Hawks.
Â
Eventually, Thomas cut SEU's lead to within 10 points, 60-50, with just under two minutes remaining, but could not muscle the ability to overcome the first half deficit.
Â
Once again, senior
Courtney Saunds led the way for the Lady Night Hawks scoring 18 points. The Darien, Ga., native also brought down eight rebounds and picked up four assists. The Fire had four players in double figures with Alyssa Ramos contributing a game high 21 points.
Â
"I have got a really accurate theory," commented head coach
Coretta Brown. "If you give 100% all of the time, somehow, things will work out in the end. Tonight, we showed that in the second half, but unfortunately it's a 40 minute game. We simply showed up too late."
Â
The Southeastern defense recorded six steals, forcing 19 Night Hawk turnovers in the loss.
Â
Thomas drops to 9-13, 6-7 in TSC play, while Southeastern improves to 21-5, 12-2 on the year.
Â
The Lady Night Hawks return to action on Thursday, Feb. 12 when they travel to southern Florida to face Sun Conference rival Ave Maria University. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
