THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's basketball team was edged 67-63 by the College of Coastal Georgia tonight at the TU Gymnasium in their final home contest of 2015. The loss splits the season series for Thomas as the Lady Night Hawks won 85-78 in their first meeting earlier this season.
Thomas trailed in the opening quarter of the game by as much as eight, 19-11, but they battled back to pull with two, 22-20, at the end of the first. The Lady Night Hawks took their first lead of the contest with 3:03 remaining in the second quarter when
De'Audra Copeland lifted a floater over a Coastal Georgia defender.
In the remaining minutes of the half, both squads traded baskets to end the opening frame knotted at 34-34.
Midway through the third quarter, Coastal Georgia gained a 43-37 advantage. The Lady Night Hawks were not deterred by CCGA's run and behind the off-the-bench performance by
Ashley Lewis took a 47-44 advantage over Coastal Georgia at the end of the third.
Thomas continued to lead Coastal Georgia into the final two minutes of regulation, but it was sharp shooting from behind the arch and at the charity stripe that turned the tide down the stretch. The Lady Mariners went on a 5-0 run and closed out the contest holding the Night Hawks to just four points in their final 10 possessions.
The Lady Night Hawks will have two weeks off from games during the holiday break but will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 29 when they face NCAA Division I foe Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga. Tipoff from the KSU Convocation Center is slated for 2:00 p.m.
