Thomas Seeks Consistency in Next Match Up

Jason Hendrix | Sports Information Director | @JasonHendrixSID

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's basketball team, fresh off of a 68-56 win over Ave Maria in the team's Sun Conference opener, will face Coastal Georgia on Dec. 14 at TU Gymnasium in the final game of a three-game home stand.

The Lady Night Hawks showed significant progress in the team's Dec. 5 TSC opener versus Ave Maria, playing well from the tip and never falling behind by more than six points.

Still, TU continued to further its reputation as a second half team, as Coretta Brown's squad outscored the Lady Gyrenes 45-28 over the final 20 minutes of action.

Additionally, the Lady Night Hawks turned in another strong rebounding performance, as the team held a 50-27 advantage on the glass.  With nearly 10 days of rest to recuperate and finish semester exams, Thomas will turn its attention to Coastal Georgia in search of another victory.

The Lady Mariners will travel to Thomasville on a six-game losing streak, having already lost an 85-78 decision to TU earlier in the season.

Coastal Georgia posted a respectable 13 wins a season ago, seventh in SSAC play, but the graduation of top player Olivia Melvin, who averaged 13.9 points per game and ranked in the top 15 nationally in steals, has had the Lady Mariners scrambling to find consistent scoring.

Janne Tullius is currently leading Coastal Georgia in scoring with 15 points per game, followed Ashanti Groover's 12.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.  Gabby O'Sullivan, Anissa Toumi and Khayla Lloyd are also contributing significantly, as the trio is averaging 11.2, 8.6 and 8.2 points per game, respectively.

The Lady Mariners have not had much trouble scoring, but the team is giving up nearly 80 points per game, something the Lady Night Hawks will look to exploit in the Dec. 14 matchup.

The upcoming contest is a significant opportunity for Coretta Brown and team to gain momentum, as a victory would be the TU's fourth in its last five games.

Tipoff at TU Gymnasium on Dec. 14 is set for 5:00 p.m.
