BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Thomas University men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2015-2016 season this evening, falling to the Mariners of Coastal Georgia 74-65.

The Night Hawks surged out to a seven point, 15-8 lead at its height in the first nine minutes of the contest.  Thomas continued to convert offensively shooting 48-percent from the field in the opening half and 9-for-11 from the charity stripe.

The Hunter Green and White continued the offensive execution to go on a 4-0 and 5-0 run in the latter minutes of the half, but the Coastal Georgia (3-1) chipped away each time holding a close position with the Night Hawks.  The hosts would close the gap capitalizing on a 9-4 run to knot the halftime score at 37-37.

Midway through the second half, both squads continued to trade temporary one-point leads with no clear advantage being established.  With 10:11 left in regulation, the Mariners' tide turned as they completed a 5-0 run with a midrange jumper by Derrick Frye.  With just under a minute left in the game, Coastal would pull away to a 12-point, 71-59 advantage.  This final run by the Mariners held strong leading to the 74-65 victory.

Thomas' bench outscored the Mariners 25-23 but outshot the Night Hawks on second chance points and turnovers (23-9).  Sophomore Javoris Cooks led the Night Hawks with 20 points while Andrea Robinson narrowly missed a double-double netting nine points while bringing down 11 boards.  Coastal's Dominic Early lead all scorers with 30.

The Night Hawks (2-1) return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 11 as they host Brewton-Parker College on Veterans Day.  Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.  The Night Hawks will honor all veterans during a halftime ceremony.  For more information, contact Pam Cook at pcook@thomasu.edu.
