HARDEESVILLE, S.C. – Thomas University women's soccer team's Cinderella run into the Sun Conference tournament came to a close tonight as they fell to the hands of TSC regular season co-champ and 2015 Sun Conference Tournament champions Keiser University 1-0.
Head coach
Julie Orlowski reflected on her squad's efforts, "We had some great looks at goal in each half and just couldn't pull the trigger."
The match was gridlocked throughout the first half as neither side showed any clear advantage at the net. While Keiser led the corners and shots battle (6-to-4 and 8-to-2, respectively), the Lady Night Hawks controlled the pace of the game to lead into the intermission knotted.
After Thomas began the half winning two corners and placing two shots on goal, Keiser would push the ball into the Lady Night Hawk's territory forcing five consecutive corners. After three misses attempts at the net, the Lady Seahawks broke the silence.
In the 62nd minute, Keiser (15-2-1) took the 1-0 lead scoring the lone goal of the match when Stephanie Morini's header deflected towards Louise Andersson who lifted the loose ball to the back of the net.
"Tremendous effort tonight. It was an epic battle start to finish," stated Orlowski. "I am so proud of this team, of the way our seniors put the team on their backs, the way the underclassmen stepped up and competed at a high level, and the love all these players have for each other. Truly an honor to be their coach."
The Lady Night Hawks end the season with an 11-9, 6-4 TSC, record finishing as the TSC tournament runner-up.
