THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day this afternoon in grand fashion shutting out Sun Conference rival USC-Beaufort 4-0 at the TU Soccer Complex.
Â
All four of TU's seniors,
Alyssa Denton,
Mackenzie Dolan,
Sara-Ann Hartley, and
Adrianna Johnson, were honored in pregame festivities with each having an integral part in today's outcome.
Â
"Our seniors have been leading this team all year," said head coach
Julie Orlowski of the 2015 senior class. "They showed up big for us today."
Â
The Lady Night Hawks took a 1-0 advantage into the half with a goal by
Linnea Roivas, which was netted in the 29th minute.
Â
While USCB countered offensively throughout the early going of the second half, it was the Thomas offense that stole the show. In the 56th minute, Johnson would put the Lady Night Hawks ahead 2-0 with a blast to the lower right corner of the net. Sophomore midfielder
Olivia Taylor crossed the ball from the outside edge of the box to Johnson who capitalized.
Â
Just 15 minutes later, freshman
Rebekah Wiltshire was pulled down from behind inside the box to set up a penalty kick for Thomas. Dolan, one of Thomas' senior captains, smashed a liner to the lower right side of the goal to put Thomas up 3-0.
Â
Wiltshire would get a second chance in the final 10 minutes of the contest when she received a touch from Denton and powered the ball just past the outstretched hands of USCB's keeper Pascale Rocca.
Â
Thomas' defensive line held strong in the match only forcing keeper Hartley to make three saves. Hartley's efforts notched for third shutout of the season.
Orlowski continued, "Our defense is improving with each game. What a tremendous environment created by the Green Army [student section] today. What a great way to send our seniors out on a great note! Now after we enjoy today, we need to get back to work and prepare for SCAD."
Â
With the 4-0 victory, Thomas improves to 8-8, 5-4 TSC, on the year while the Sand Sharks drops to 5-12-15, 5-5 TSC.
The Lady Night Hawks return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 28, when they host Sun Conference rival SCAD-Savannah in the regular season finale. First touch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Remington Park Soccer Complex.
