Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Night Hawks Fall 1-0 to SEU on Senior Day

Jacob Dennis | Sports Information Intern | @jakeyd_8

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University saw its five-match winning streak halted Saturday afternoon at the hands of (RV) Southeastern, as the Fire stole a 1-0 victory from the Night Hawks on Senior Day.  The contest was Thomas' third loss of the season in 15 matches, with each defeat coming by a single goal.

The Night Hawks will not have time to dwell on the defeat, however, as the team will travel to Columbus, Ga., next Friday night to face a talented Georgia Gwinnett side.  Putting Saturday's match out of view will be of extreme importance for TU, as the team has two critical matches down the stretch.

"We have no choice in the matter," head coach Ricky Zambrano said of his team's prospects to bounce back after the 1-0 defeat. "We have a very good Georgia Gwinnett team coming up in non-conference play, and we've got to turn around and put this behind us to get back to our winning ways."

The Night Hawks controlled the pace of play for the most part during the match, winning the corner count 7-4 and outshooting the Fire by a wide 21-6 margin.

The only goal of the match came in the 29th minute, as Pedro Ivo Dias curled a low, driven free kick around the TU wall and into the bottom right corner of the net to put the Fire out in front.

The loss should not overshadow the accomplishments of the Night Hawks' senior class, however, which was honored prior to the match.

"This is a valuable senior class," Zambrano continued. "Every senior class has its value. We've done a great job as a program of getting guys that are committed to being here for four years and making a difference during their time both on the field and in the community and classroom."

Senior honorees were Shakir Jarrett, Guilherme Henrique, Lyle Gifford, Patrick Ramdial, David Astudillo, Andrew Berg, Joey Lopez, Eric Persson, Juan Hernandez and Abraham Maldonado.  The talented group has led TU to 54 wins and 188 goals over the past four seasons.

The Night Hawks will look to get back in the win column on Friday, Oct. 23 versus Georgia Gwinnett.  The neutral site matchup will take place in Columbus, Ga.  First touch is set for 6:00 p.m.
