Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WBB Thumped by Bobcats on the Road

Jason Hendrix | Sports Information Director | @JasonHendrixSID

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Thomas University women's basketball team's three game winning streak came to a halt this evening losing to St. Thomas University 80-48.  St. Thomas, who is the number one ranked team in the Sun Conference, shot 46 percent from the field, including five made three-pointers.

The Lady Night Hawks struggled all afternoon against the Lady Bobcats on both ends of the floor.  At the intermission, STU led by 14, 33-19.

Defensively, the Bobcats held the Night Hawks to 33 percent shooting also forcing TU into committing a whopping 27 turnovers.

Head coach Coretta Brown reflected on today's loss, "As a coach, there's nothing more disappointing than your players not giving forth the effort they are capable of. Out of the 10 players suited up, I felt like I had only two that were focused in and tried to execute the game plan for 40 minutes.  That's not how we've been successful in the past, and we need to change that mindset and start back to being focused as a whole."

No Lady Night Hawk scored in double figures in the losing effort.  Senior Jessica Anderson led the way with nine points and one rebound while classmate Courtney Saunds netted eight points.  Saunds struggled at points, committing a career, single game high of eight turnovers.

Thomas drops to 8-11, 5-5 in TSC play, while St. Thomas improves to 16-4, 9-1 on the year.

The Lady Night Hawks return to action on Thursday, Feb. 5 when they travel to Lake Wales, Fla., to face off with Sun Conference rival Warner University.  Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
