Lady Night Hawks Softball Sweeps Webber

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Lady Night Hawks Softball team (18-17, 4-2) swept a Sun Conference double header, 2-0 & 8-7, away from the Webber International Warriors (12-16, 2-8) on Sunday afternoon in Lake Wales, Fla.

Freshman starting pitcher Ashley Sikes (7-2) allowed six hits in the complete game 2-0 shutout victory in game one. Senior second baseman Brittany Mayhill (3-4, R, RBI, SB) and senior catcher Aimee Johnson (2-4, RBI, 2B) drove in the Lady Night Hawks only run.

Webber scored five runs in the bottom of the second to jump ahead 5-0. TU struck back in their half of the fourth to plate six runs and take a 6-5 lead but WIU responded with two in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead. Thomas took advantage of a Webber error to tie the game at seven in the fifth and would plate the eventual game winner on a base hit by Johnson, scoring Mayhill from second after the senior had stroked a one out base hit and advanced to second on a sacrifice. Sikes (8-2) came out of the pen to toss five innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits, picking up her eighth win of the season.

TU will return home to Armory Field on Saturday April 12th at 1 p.m. when they host St. Thomas University in a critical Sun Conference double header.
