Thomas Softball Takes One

Splits TSC Double Header

Thomas Softball (21-20, 7-5) took one out of two from the host Ave Maria University Gyrenes (27-25, 7-7) on Friday afternoon in Ave Maria, Fla.

TU scored three runs in the top of the eighth to take game one 5-2. Senior third baseman Summer Rose (1-4, 2 RBI) drove in two runs to break a 2-2 tie and junior center fielder Aileen Fiallo (1-4, R, RBI) gave the Lady Night Hawks an insurance run, driving in a run on a fielder's choice. Thomas initially held a 2-0 lead but allowed Ave to tie the game with two unearned runs in the fifth. Freshman starting pitcher Ashley Sikes (10-4) picked up her 10th win of the year, two unearned runs on nine hits in eight innings of work.

AMU struck back hard in game two, scoring five runs in the second followed by single runs in the third and fourth to take a 7-1 lead after Thomas had scored a run in their opening frame. Ave added two more runs in the sixth to wrap up the scoring in a 9-1 defeat of the Night Hawks. Senior pitcher Summer Rose (8-7) lasted only four innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on ten hits, in the loss.

The Night Hawks continue their final road trip, of the regular season, tomorrow afternoon at 1p.m. when they face Warner University in another Sun Conference double header.
