Final day of the GCI

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Final day of the GCI brought a morning full of excitement and an afternoon of heartbreak. The Lady Night Hawks stun the #11 Raiders of Lindsey Wilson (14-2) with an 8-2 victory in game one of bracket play; however, #23 Central Methodist (10-4) outlasted TU winning 6-5 in 9 innings.

Thomas comes out scoring in the first inning with a single by junior Chandler Seay (1-2, 2R, 1RBI) and then junior Carmen Nadal (2-4, 2RBI's) punched a hit through to allowing Seay to come across the plate. TU went cold for two inning at the plate and allowed LWC to score two runs for Thomas to be down 2-1 going into the top of the 4th when senior Summer Rose (1-3) singled in the 5/6 hole with one out. A ripple affect with a walk, an error, and 3 singles allowed for 4 runs to come across. TU was not done with a 5-1 led and tacked on 3 more runs in the 7th for a final of 8-2. Sophomore Alex VanWagner went 2-3 with one run scored and two RBI's. Chelsea Carter came in in the 7th to pinch hit and added a single to the 3 run 7th. Rose (7-5) pitched the complete game allowing 5 hits and just two runs while picking up the win.

Central Methodist takes an early lead hitting a 3 run bomb in the bottom of the 2nd. TU was held scoreless until the top of the 4th when Thomas took the lead by one with just one swing after a Grand Slam by Rose (2-3, 1R, 4RBI's) scoring senior Amiee Johnson (1-1, 1R, 2BB), pinch runner Sorrell Hale, and junior Aileen Fiallo (0-4, 1R). CMU would answer back in the bottom of the 4th to knot the game at 4. TU took the lead back in the top of 5th with senior Brittney Mayhill (2-3, 1R) starting the inning off with a single allowing her to steal second. Alex VanWagner (2-3) bunted for a hit to move Mayhill to third. Carmen Nadal (0-3, 1RBI) scored Mayhill on the batted ball error to second. Again, CMU would knot it back at 5 off an error by TU in the bottom of the 6th. TU was not able to execute in their halves of the International Tie Breaker as it went into two extra innings. CMU was able to secure the win in the bottom of the 9th, as they bunted their runner to third with just one out. A ground ball to the right side then scored her for the CMU victory. Freshman Ashley Sikes took the loss coming in and relieving Johnson in the 5th inning.

Softball will be back in action this weekend, March 15th as they travel to Mt. Vernon, Ga. to play Brewton Parker in a double header; capping the weekend off traveling to Brunswick, Ga. on March 16th, to play Coastal Georgia.
