TU Serves another Split on Day two of the GCI

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TU serves another split on day two of the GCI losing 2-0 to William Penn while defeating Blue Mountain 9-3 in game two.

The Lady Night Hawks had a tough outing at the plate against the William Penn Statesmen as they were held to just two hits. Junior Chandler Seay opened the game with an infield single (1-3). TU was then held hitless till the seventh when senior Summer Rose (1-3) had a single down the third base line with a runner on second. Senior Aimee Johnson (0-5) is charged with the loss as two unearned runs were allowed in the 4th.

The night cap was a different show for the Lady Night Hawks scoring 9 runs on 10 hits. TU gave up a run in the top of the 1st; however, TU answered back scoring 2 runs in the bottom half of the 1st as Seay (1-2, 2R) draws a leadoff walk, allowing senior Brittany Mayhill (2-3, 2R, 1RBI) to bunt for a base hit and then a double steal that set sophomore Alex VanWagner (2-3, 2R, 2RBI's) up to hit a ground ball to the right side to score Seay. Junior Aileen Fiallo (1-2, 1RBI) then singled to right to score the second run of the inning. TU busted it open in the bottom of the 2nd, scoring 6 runs while Aimee Johnson (1-3, 1R, 3RBI's) hit a three run blast. Blue Mountain would score 2 in the 3rd; however, TU would tack on one more run in the 4th to make the final 9-3. Summer Rose (6-5) picks up the win as she tossed 4 innings allowing four hits and just two earned runs.

Thomas will finish the Gulf Coast Tournament tomorrow March 9, 2014 starting bracket play at 11:00 am.
