Lady Night Hawks Softball Split

The Lady Night Hawks Softball team (8-11) split a pair, this afternoon, in day one of the Gulf Coast Invitational in Orange Beach, Ala.

TU was dropped in game one 7-1 by NAIA #9 Belhaven University (13-2). Senior starting pitcher Summer Rose (5-5) allowed six earned runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings in the losing effort. Belhaven pitching limited Thomas to only two hits.

In game two of the day, the Lady Night Hawks stunned NAIA #2 Spring Hill College (7-3), topping the Badgers 6-2. With TU up 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, junior shortstop Lindsey Young (1-2, 2 R, 3 RBI, HR) broke the game wide open with a three run home run to deep center, putting TU up 6-1. Freshman starting pitcher Ashley Sikes (2-1) handled the rest keeping the Badgers off balance in a complete game effort, limiting SHC to only four hits on the day while allowing two earned runs.

Thomas will face William Penn University, at 1PM, and Blue Mountain College, at 7PM, in day two action of the Orange Beach Invitational.
