Lady Night Hawks Softball Remains Winless

The Lady Night Hawks softball team (0-4) dropped two games today at the 2014 SSU Softball Tournament in Savannah, Ga. to remain winless in the early going.

TU fell behind 3-0 after allowing three runs to NCAA D1 Savannah State University (2-0) in the first two innings of the early game. Thomas tied the game with a three run outburst in the top of the fifth. Senior catcher Aimee Johnson (1-3, R, RBI, HR) led off the inning with a solo home run, after a walk and a double placed Lady Night Hawks on second and third, junior center fielder Aileen Fiallo (0-3, RBI) grounded out to bring in a run and senior pitcher Summer Rose (1-2, R) scored on a passed ball to notch the game at three. SSU blanked Thomas in the sixth and scored the eventual game winner in the bottom of the sixth. Rose (0-2) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. TU was limited to three hits by Savannah State pitching in the 4-3 loss.

In the evening game, Thomas was over matched by a late surge from the Brewton Parker College Barons (3-0) in a 7-1 loss. The Lady Night Hawks took a 1-0 lead on an RBI by senior catcher Brittney Mayhill (3-3, RBI, 2B) in the third. BPC rallied for five runs in the fifth and two in the seventh to put the game away. Three errors by the TU defense did not help matters for Thomas. Johnson (0-2) tossed 4 2/3 innings in the loss and allowed five earned runs on seven hits.

Thomas will face Morgan State University (11 a.m.) and Brewton Parker (3:15 p.m.) tomorrow in day two of tournament.
