Box Score THOMASVILLE, Ga. – While the Thomas University women's basketball team dropped its exhibition matchup 54-39 to NCAA Division I foe University of North Florida this afternoon on the road, the Lady Night Hawks gained quality experience against a formidable opponent.
The Lady Night Hawks dominated much of the first half building a lead of seven points at its height with 9:47 remaining until intermission. UNF slowly chipped away at the Lady Night Hawks' gap to take a 25-24 lead into the half.
The contest was a tale of two halves where the Lady Ospreys flipped a swish defensively and held the Hunter Green and White to just 15 second half points. The Lady Night Hawks tied the game at 35 with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation and took its last lead, 36-35, of the game on a pair of free throws by
Bria Joyner-Williams. The Lady Ospreys closed the contest with a 19-3 run to pull away for the 55-39 victory.
Senior guard
Courtney Saunds led all scorers in the game collecting 22 of the Lady Night Hawks 39 points. The Darien, Ga., native also picked up four rebounds, one block, and one steal in the losing effort.
Head coach
Coretta Brown commented, "Today was a great experience for the ladies. I think they see that they can compete with anybody, but our challenge is doing so for a complete 40 minutes."
The Lady Night Hawks return to the court on Tuesday, Dec. 16 when they host College of Coastal Georgia at the TU Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
