TU Women's Basketball (6-6, 2-0) improved to 2-0 in The Sun conference action, defeating the visiting Florida Memorial University Lions (0-7, 0-1), 76-66, on Saturday afternoon at the Thomas University Gymnasium.
The Night Hawks started slow and FMU took advantage of sloppy play to take a nine point lead at the 9:18 mark of the first half. Helped by a first half high ten points from the hot hand of freshman guard
Shaunice Bennett, TU bounced back to take a 35-32 lead into the half. In the first half the two teams combined for 25 total fouls.
Thomas extended their lead right from the start in the second half and saw their lead grow to ten, 56-46, on a basket by junior guard
Christina Wynn with 11:26 to play. The Lady Night Hawks opened their largest lead of the day when they stretched the margin to 15 with 2:39 left in the game. Bennett led all scorers with 22 points while pulling down 9 rebounds. Freshman guard
Joi Wright contributed 19 points.
The ladies will play their last match before Christmas break on Tuesday December 17, 2013 when they welcome College of Coastal Georgia for their final non-conference match-up of the season. Opening tip-off is set for 5:30PM.
