Cotter played two years at South Georgia State College (SGSC) in Waycross, Ga., guiding SGSC to a conference championship in 2014-15, before transferring to Valdosta State for one season. Cotter finished his college career playing one year at NCAA DII North Georgia.

The Lawrenceville, Ga. native holds a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in physical education and mass media from Valdosta State.
