THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Men's basketball team will close out the season Saturday at home for Senior Day, as the Night Hawks host the Coastal Georgia Mariners in SUN Conference play.
As the inspirational quote goes, "It's not how you start, it's how you finish." For TU (10-15, 4-11 SUN), the season may not have gone as planned, but the Green & White will have the opportunity to finish the 2021-22 season with a win and snap a five-game skid. Thomas will have plenty to play for Saturday afternoon, not just for Senior Day. The Night Hawks will look to avenge its earlier contest against Coastal Georgia (8-15, 3-12 SUN) in Brunswick, as the Mariners upset TU 68-60.
The second round of SUN Conference games saw a different Night Hawks' squad playing without its big men in the paint due to injury, forcing to go small and avoiding the paint since the Southeastern upset. As a result, Senior Guard
Toriano Lewis has averaged 3.6 Made 3-Ptrs. while Junior Guard
Justin Figueroa averaged 12 points a game, both in the last five contests.
The Mariners, like the Night Hawks, enter Saturday's contest having lost seven of its previous eight games and look to end the season with a win. CCGA's lone win in the span came against Webber International by a score of 75-66.
While Coastal Georgia has experienced more heartbreak than most this season, the Mariners have shot well from the field, knocking down 47% or better from the floor in four of the last six contests. Leading the charge offensively is Kenny Brown, who has averaged 17.3 points scored in his last four appearances.
TU holds a narrow 8-7 lead in the overall series against CCGA, with each team exchanging wins since the start of 2019.
