Redemption: TU Picks Up First Win

MARIETTA, GA- The Thomas University Men's Basketball team redeemed themselves on Saturday afternoon against Dalton State to close out their road trip at the Life University Classic. Head Coach, Colin Cotter also notched his first career win.

Thomas University  (1-1) started off the game with a statement dunk from Senior Mohammed Abubakar as Fifth Jordan Booker picked up an assist early in the game. Dalton State (1-1) could not get a grasp on early opportunities as the RoadRunners continued to create several opportunities for the Night Hawks at the charity stripe as Senior Tim Williamson and Taylor Mitchell were able to put the Green and White up. Dalton State struggled to find the backboard as TU continued to build on their lead to go up by 11, before Sean Cobb eventually answered with a layup of his own. The Blue and White slowly started to find their groove late in the first half, but Thomas University was able to hold onto their lead heading into halftime.

Entering the second half, Mohammed Abubakar answered with a bucket to stretch TU's lead by 12. Sean Cobb continued to be the leader for Dalton State as he scored most of the points in the second half for the RoadRunners. Despite the efforts from Cobb, Thomas continued to expand their lead, seeing their largest expansion of 24 points in the second half that helped the Green and White seal the deal for their first win of the year.

Overall, Thomas accumulated three players in double digits with Sophomore Jarvis Brown leading the way. Fifth year, Jordan Booker boasted a season high of 10 assists, which helped Thomas find opportunities in the net. TU shot 54% from the field and 45% from the arch. TU had no problem creating chances at the charity stripe as they were able to shoot 80% from the free throw line. The Green and White also led almost every statistical category. Thomas had tremendous help from the bench, after creating a total of 42 points off the bench. Additionally, TU did not have any problems finding their flow inside the arch after creating 32 points in the paint.

"Today's win felt good" said Head Coach, Colin Cotter. "We felt like we let our season opener slip away from us yesterday." "I have to give credit to our guys." "They really competed on both ends of the court." " Our Assistant Coaches, Ron Foxx and Charles Ubah did an outstanding job with our game plan and preparing our guys for this game."

WHAT'S NEXT: Thomas will have a few days to get ready for their TU Classic, which is also their home opener against the University of Tennessee Southern. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00pm on Friday.
