THOMASVILLE, Ga. – In their 100th home game in program history, the Thomas University Men's basketball team could not overcome a first half double-digit deficit, as the Night Hawks were upset by the Brewton-Parker College Barons 70-55 Monday night at TU Gymnasium.
The Night Hawks (3-2) shot better from the field in this matchup against the Barons (1-6), shooting 37.5% from the floor and 33.3% long-range. The Green & White finished 11-for-15 (73.3) from the charity stripe after starting the contest hitting a perfect 7-for-7.
Half of TU's 48 shots from the field came from outside the arch.
Thomas began the game with a 5-0 lead before the Barons converted on its first basket at the 16:45 mark. The Night Hawks would push its lead to six (8-2), its largest of the night, before the Brewton-Parker spent nearly the next three minutes a blazing 11-0 scoring run to take a 13-8 lead. Brewton-Parker would hold a lead for the rest of the night.
A pair of free throws from Senior Guard
Jordan Booker with 4:35 in the first half brought the Night Hawks to within four (26-22), but the Barons went on another scoring spree, this time an 11-2 run that ran through the rest of the half to take a 37-24 lead into the locker room.
The second half proved to be more balanced, despite Brewton-Parker outscoring Thomas 33-31. The Green & White came out firing, posting an 11-4 run in the first five minutes that was highlighted by two 3-Ptrs. from Senior Guard
Toriano Lewis and Junior Guard
Justin Figueroa. Both Lewis and Figueroa would finish the night as the Night Hawks' scoring leaders with 15 and 16 points, respectively.
After Thomas pulled to within six (41-35) with 15:12 left, Brewton-Parker would pull away for good, as a layup And1 from BPC's T.J. Taylor, paired with a Bryce Wilson dunk, gave the Barons a double-digit lead that would stay for the remainder of the game, preserving BPC's 70-55 upset win.
In just 19 minutes of action, fifth-year DeSean Enzor recorded 10 points and five boards, including a 71.4% conversion rate from the court.
