WALESKA, Ga. – On the court, the Thomas University Men's basketball team had its Thanksgiving meal Saturday afternoon in a performance to remember, carving up the University of Mobile Rams 65-41 at the James & Sis Brown Athletic Center to allow the fewest points in a game ever in program history.
The Night Hawks (6-5, 1-2 SUN) had a defensive showing like no other, limiting the Rams (4-6, 0-1 SSAC) to under 24% from the floor and 18.2% from long range (both program bests). Additionally, TU matched its fewest turnover mark (8) under Head Coach TJ Rines.
Redshirt Junior Keon Williams paved the way for Thomas' scoring, matching his third-highest career mark (14 points) while shooting 6-for-12 (50%) from the field. Senior Guard
Trint Bryant finished the day with 13 points, hitting 6-for-9 (67%) while falling one rebound shy of a double-double.
For nearly the first 13 minutes of the game, both teams struggled offensively, as the contest was deadlocked 12-12 at the 7:06 mark. Following UM's equalizing trey from Joshua Williams, TU's offense turned red-hot for the next four minutes, posting a blazing 15-2 scoring run led by Senior Guard
Tim Williamson that forced the Rams to use a full timeout to regroup at the 2:36 mark. The half would end with Mobile's Gary Jefferson tacking on four more points and Senior Guard
Toriano Lewis adding a good 3-ptr. to give the Night Hawks a 30-18 lead heading into the locker room.
The Green & White remained focused to begin the second half, recording a second, profound scoring run (19-3) over the first 10 minutes and 27 seconds of the half before a good Rams' jump shot with 9:17 left in the game extended Thomas' lead 49-21.
Even as TU's reserves entered the contest, it did not stop the Night Hawks from continuing to push its lead out to as many as 31 points at the 3:53 mark with Freshman
Micah Stinson's first-made bucket of his NAIA career. The contest would end with the Rams on a 7-1 scoring run, but the 65-41 TU victory gave the Night Hawks its fifth, non-conference win of the season.
