THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Men's basketball team will be searching for a much-needed victory in The Sun Conference Saturday afternoon, as the Night Hawks host Keiser University.
After a harsh setback Thursday night, TU (2-8, 2-2 TSC) has already moved on and is focused on trying to get back over .500 in conference play. The Night Hawks have gradually become a 3-Point threat, now holding TSC's third-best 3-Pt. Percentage (.346), thanks in part to the vastly-improved shooting of Junior Guard
Toriano Lewis. After starting the season 1-for-11 long range, Lewis has found a shooting rhythm; since the Battle at the Beach Tournament a week ago, the Richmond, Va. native has shot over 47% from outside the arch, including a 4-for-5 performance last time out against Ave Maria.
KU (4-4, 1-2 TSC) has two players that comprise the heart and soul of the Seahawks' squad: CoreVon Lott and Antwan Claxton. Lott is the points production leader for KU, averaging 19.5 Points a Game, while shooting 51.4% from the field and 48% long-range. The Gary, Indiana native also averages three made 3-Ptrs. a game, which is tied for third in TSC. Claxton, on the other hand, leads the team in Assists (3.38 a Game), Steals (2.13 a Game), and Blocks (1.13 a Game).
Despite both Keiser and Thomas having TSC's highest Field Goal Defense Percentages (.458 and .481 respectively), the Night Hawks appear to have a slight advantage, as the team has finished two of their last three games with more shot attempts than their opponents. Additionally, more chances will come through pick-pocketing the Seahawks, as Thomas ranks third in NAIA in Team Steals (87).
For the Night Hawks to maximize team chances for victory, one facet they must control is the endgame. In the team's last five games, TU on average has given up a staggering 46.6 points in the second half. Last week in Montgomery, Ala., Keiser averaged 41.3 second-half points in three games.
Tipoff at TU Gymnasium is slated for 4 p.m. Links to follow the game are below:
