Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

C.J. Williamson, Fouls Bail Out Faulkner

Angelo Pontello | Sports Information Director | @apontello44

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – While most people predicted this game to be in Faulkner's favor anyways, the Thomas University Men's basketball team once again went toe-to-toe with another high-powered offense, but a foul-plagued game and a career performance from FU's C.J. Williamson denied TU's bid for victory Friday night, falling to the host team 94-88.

Despite being outshot from the field, from long-range, and from the free-throw line, Thomas (2-5, 2-1 TSC) had better conversion numbers than RV Faulkner (4-0), shooting 48.2% from the field and 55% long-range against the nation's No. 2 team in 3-Pt. Field Goal Defense.

Thomas saw two quick leads in the first two minutes of the first half, but Faulkner would control the rest of the half, maintaining a slim, single-digit lead in the process.  FU's lead would be no larger than six.

In the final minute of the half, the Eagles' lead by one, 37-36, but a 3-Ptr. By Junior Guard Toriano Lewis put TU back on top.  A foul from Junior Guard Tim Williamson led to a pair of good free throws from Jordan Hamlette, but Junior Forward Shamar Brown would have the final shot, drilling a long-range shot to take a 42-40 halftime lead.

The Night Hawks began the second half with a 9-3 scoring run through the first three minutes to make the score 51-43.  The Hunter Green & White would continue to see its lead extend to ten, 65-55, at the 12:25 mark.  TU, however, would see its largest lead slip, igniting a 15-3 run for the Eagles over four minutes and 23 seconds, thanks to fouls and a scoring charge led by Garrett Sanderson.  Faulkner would capitalize off a few key turnovers from Thomas to extend its lead to 11 with just under four minutes remaining.  FU would go on to hold the lead and preserve its 94-88 win.

Junior Guard Jordan Booker nearly captured a double-double on the night, tallying 25 points and nine assists.  Toriano Lewis had his best game yet in a TU uniform, shooting 5-for-9 long range to pick up 15 points on the day.

The Night Hawks will look to rebound Saturday against William Carey University.  Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. EST.
