Night Hawks Face Another TSC Test in CCGA

Angelo Pontello | Sports Information Director | @apontello44

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – One win, and one loss; this record in The Sun Conference is an important similarity between the Thomas University Night Hawks and their Saturday opponent, the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners.

The Hunter Green & White (1-4, 1-1 TSC) will look to build momentum off a special Thursday night road win against Webber International 69-64.  Junior Forward Shamar Brown scored 17 points, while Junior Guards Jordan Booker and Trint Bryant also reached double-digits in scoring last time out.

Coastal Georgia (3-2, 1-1 TSC) saw its three-game win streak snapped by TSC preseason-favorite RV Southeastern.  The Mariners will look to resolve its frustration by putting up points on a TU team that has given up the most points a game in TSC (84.2).  Leading the scoring charge for CCGA will be Junior Guard Kenny Brown and Senior Guard Jordan Parks.  Both players rank in the Top 20 in NAIA in Total 3-Ptrs made, which plays a part in both Brown and Parks ranking third and fifth, respectively, in TSC in Points per Game (19.8 for Brown and 19 for Parks).  This will challenge a Thomas defense that has allowed over 35% of long-range shots and 49% of shots from the field.

TU will have a shot of obtaining back-to-back conference wins if the team can focus on two aspects of Saturday's game.  The first part will be the 3-Pt. Game; Thomas ranks in the middle of the TSC pack (fifth) when shooting from outside the arch, converting 30.1% of the time.  CCGA has struggled to guard the 3-Pt ball, ranking last in the conference in 3-Pt Defense (39.8%).

The other key aspect for the Hunter Green & White will be Free Throws; TU will look to gain plenty of opportunities for free points at the line from a physical Mariners' team that leads TSC in Fouls a Game averaging 23 on the season.  While the Night Hawks also have been known to rank high in Fouls per Game, the Mariners have shot 65.6% from the charity stripe.

Tipoff at the TU Gymnasium is scheduled for 4 p.m. Fans can catch the action online by clicking on the link below:
