THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Men's basketball team will begin their conference slate Saturday at home, hosting the Fire from RV Southeastern University.
TU (0-3) has had more than a week to prepare for The Sun Conference (TSC)'s preseason favorites after falling to Middle Georgia State 81-75 in the team's last outing. The Night Hawks will face its fourth, consecutive opponent that is ranked in the Top 51 in NAIA in Scoring. Southeastern, specifically, enters Saturday's contest averaging 86 Points a Game.
Junior Guard
Trint Bryant began the season without ever positing a double-double in his NAIA career. On Saturday, the Thomasville, Ga. native will look for his third straight on the season. Bryant currently averages 18 Points a Game, shooting just over 63% from the field (5th best in TSC), while averaging 9.3 Rebounds per Game.
In addition to Bryant, the Night Hawks will look to Junior Guard
Jordan Booker to make plays offensively and break them defensively. The Andrew College transfer leads TSC in both Assists Per Game (5.7) and Totals Steals (10).
Southeastern (3-0) has been known on the NAIA level to be a national, scoring threat, thanks to the team's love for the 3-ball. In 2020-21, the Fire continue to maintain its reputation as a long-range shooting team, averaging .409 from beyond the arch (16th best in NAIA). The Red, Black, and White rank sixth in NAIA when it comes to 3-Pt Field Goals Made per Game (12.67). In addition to its offense, SEU's defense has been stifling (no pun intended), holding NAIA's 13th best Scoring Defense (61.67), 21st in Blocks a Game (4.67), and NAIA's tenth best Field Goal Percentage Defense (.350).
The Fire is led by Sophomore Riley Minix, who leads TSC in Points a Game (24), and is sixth in TSC in Field Goal Percentage (.510). Defensively, Minix is second in the conference in Defensive Rebounds averaging eight boards a game.
Tipoff at TU Gymnasium is scheduled for 2 p.m. Although there will be no fans allowed at the game, we strongly encourage Night Hawk Nation and our viewers to watch the game live by clicking the link below:
